Ingersoll Watch Company started as a mail order company in 1882. It was founded in New York City by brothers Robert and Charles Ingersoll. After striking a deal with the Waterbury Clock Company in 1892, they started selling watches. Not long after, they releases the Yankee, a $1 pocket watch. The goal was to make a watch that everyone could afford. It was made from stamped parts and had zero jewels. Within just three years, they had 10,000 dealers and were producing 8,000 watches per day. As popularity of the dollar watch grew, it became known as “the watch that made the dollar famous.” Despite the large numbers of watches being sold, the company went bankrupt in 1921 and was bought by their manufacturing partner, the Waterbury Clock Company for $1,500,000 in 1922. The Waterbury Clock Company eventually turned in to Timex. Today, Ingersoll watches carry an American heritage, are designed in Germany, and made in China. Ingersoll Movements | Ingersoll Videos
