Furlan Marri is known for their Kurono-like hype from their mechaquartz chronograph collection. In summer of 2022, the brand evolved into a 3-hander automatic with a black Sector dial (ref: 2116-A). Building upon the foundation of what they call their Mechanical Story, Furlan Marri just introduced three new pieces to the collection.
This new drop takes the now retired black Sector and adds three more dial colors to the line-up: Salmon (2154-A), White (2161-A), and Grey (2145-A) – read as pink, silver and gray for SEO purposes.
The FM Sector takes classic vintage watch aesthetic and updates it with features not found on the wrists of Mad Men. This modernization includes a sapphire crystal and exhibition style caseback. The original black reference had a solid back, but FM listened to their fans and opened it up in the incoming versions.
Not so modern is the lack of a screw-down crown giving you a 50m depth rating. Although, the argument can be made that it’s a dress watch not intended for taking a dip, it’s a feature a lot of watch enthusiasts have come to expect on a new release. Maybe it’s time for the community to reject such expectations and appreciate each individual watch for what they are and the purposes they serve.
The size is right at 37.5mm and just 10.5mm thick – not too big and not too small. Another improvement over older watches is the 20mm lug-width, giving a perfect balance of strap to case, as well as more versatility when it comes to finding more accessories for your watch. The beautifully shaped case horns (lugs) also feature two sets of springbar holes to accommodate straps with varying thickness.
Powering this 2023 version of a 1940s timepiece, is a caliber La Joux-Perret Caliber LJP-G101 in the élaboré grade of finishing. This automatic movement contains 68 hours of power reserve on a full wind, beating at 28,800 bph.
As of this review, the Furlan Marri lists the movement in the Sector as a LJP-G100, but that doesn’t sound right since the G100 has s standard calendar complication and the Sector is a no-date.
In Furlan Marri’s own words:
“A three hands time only wristwatch with “cow horns” lugs, powered by a swiss made automatic movement from La Joux-Perret with an elaborated finish, tungsten rotor with palladium coating and hacking seconds function. The case is finished with a care for details, like the “perlage” decoration inside the caseback, the curved hands and the applied “Breguet” indexes. The watch comes with two straps included in the packaging, one curved and one straight. Two holes have been made in the lugs, to let you choose between the two straps options.”
The retail price of the Sector is CHF1,250.00, which exchanges to about $1,365 USD.
The 3 new pieces are not available as of the official announcement today (March 23, 2023).
