At Baselworld 2013, KeepTheTime had the pleasure of meeting with Daniel Nebel, the independent watchmaker and founder of NORD ZEITMASCHINE Watches. Watch the video above as he gives the world a hands-on introduction of his amazing timekeeping inventions: the Quickindicator and the Variocurve.

NORD Quickindicator

First up is the Quickindicator. The inner 3D dial construction is not often seen so I wanted to share with you all the depth of this design. At least 6 layers counting the crystal? Yet with all of its complexity, it is called the Quickindicator to give you a fast read of the time (once you actually learn how to interpret it).

The Quickindicator model has the caliber NORD N3 automatic movement, which is actually an ETA caliber 2824-2 with proprietary module – so not exactly in-house, but far from stock. This familiar movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with 25 jewels and integrated precision-microballbearings.

NORD’s module is what makes it special and gives it the following elevator pitch:

The Quickindicator has perhaps the world’s quickest minute hand in a wristwatch.

The stainless steel case is 44.3mm diameter with a thickness of 15.6mm. The case alone weighs in at about 115g without a strap attached. 10 screws secure the bezel and caseback. The curved-flat sapphire allows for a crystal clear view into the beautiful dial of this watch. Both sides are anti-reflective and feature laser engraved numbers on the inside of the crystal.

This watch is limited to 97 numbered pieces in each color configuration. Can you figure out how to tell the time on this watch without a tutorial?

Retail Price: $14,800 USD

Nord Variocurve

Next up is the NORD Variocurve with a gliding hand shooting upward from 6:00. This hand gives you the minutes. The hours can be read via disc located at the 8:30 zone. Also limited edition, the Variocurve features a custom rotor on the highly modulated and modified ETA 2824-2.

Retail Price: $15,200 USD
